Yritysten tukeminen kiertotaloustransformaatiossa : case: Laurea Kiertotalous Living Lab – avainkumppanikonseptin luominen
(2023)
Tämän opinnäytetyö kuvaa kehityshanketta, jonka tuloksena syntyi avainkumppaneiden kiertotaloustransformaatiota tukeva konsepti Laurea Kiertotalous Living Labiin. Kehityshankkeen tavoitteena oli selvittää kiertotalouden transformaatiota edistäviä ja...
This thesis is a case study. It describes the development project of the key partnership concept for Laurea Circular Economy Living Lab, which is used to support the circular transformation of the key partners. The objective of this case study, was to discover the drivers and challenges of circular economy transformation and the best ways to support an organisation in its circular transformation within the living lab environment. This case study was commissioned by Laurea University of Applied Sciences. The theoretical framework of this study was compiled by studying the concepts of circular economy, circular transfromation, circular business models, drivers and challenges of circular economy and the living lab. The theory investigated was chosen mainly from fresh, peer-reviewed research articles. The development task was carried out by three students of Laurea University of Applied Sciences and four key partners of Laurea in the ways of co-development and the Double Diamond framework of service design. Two other organisations were also interviewed. In the first phase, “Discover”, students defined the problem and objects of the development task. It also included gathering the backround framework of the related theory. The second phase, “Define”, the research group gathered customer insight by interviewing the organisations and analysing their answers. The “Develop” phase was implemented as a co-creation workshop with the key partners. It was held to identify the services Laurea could offer in its Circular Living Lab in order to help the circular transformation of the key partner organisations. The last “Define” phase included developing the final concept and publishing it. The concept that was created as a result of the co-creation development process, included services and methods that Laurea can use in supporting the key partners in their transformation process within the living lab environment. The main focus points of the consept were solutions to gaining more knowledge about circular economy, finding networks, and research and development for identifying circular possibilities. The result of the development task, the key partner concept, corresponded well with the needs of Laurea. The concrete services and methods listed in the concept design are in line with the findings made from the theory and interviews about what kind of support different organisations could need in their transfromation process, which means that one can find the research reliable and useful. The results of the development process show, that organisations could benefit from many types of support in their circular transformation, and that a living lab run by an academy is able to provide a network or services that will help find solutions to different transformation challenges. If further research were to be done on the matter, it would be beneficial to discover more closely the needs of an organisation in a certain phase of circular transformation. Keywords: circular economy, circular transformation, circular business models, living lab...

Sivuvirroista kiertotalousliiketoimintaa : case: puutuhka Lapinjärven alueella
(2021)
Opinnäytetyö on osa Lapinjärven kunnan, Laurean ja Aalto Yliopiston Resurssiviisaaksi ihmislähtöisin keinoin -hanketta, jossa on tarkoituksena viedä resurssiviisaus Lapinjärven kunnan toiminnasta alueen asukkaille ja yrityksiin kehittäen uutta...
The thesis was a part of the Municipality of Lapinjärvi, Laurea and Aalto University´s Resource-smart with a human touch – project, where the resource wisdom activities of the municipality of Lapinjärvi are spread among the residents and companies of the area to develop new business. The development task was to support companies towards resource wisdom and the circular economy business. The research problem of the thesis was ash waste from thermal power plants in Lapinjärvi and the surrounding areas, and the purpose was to find ways to utilize the ash side stream. The goal was to present business proposals and models from the ash side stream. The theoretical framework of the thesis is a new sustainable and resource-wise economic model, the circular economy, as well as innovation activities and business models and ecosystems that promote and enable the transition towards circular economy. The thesis is a case study in which the service design with double diamond process is carried out and a benchmarking study is conducted. In the first stage of the process, the operating environment is monitored and analysed using PESTE analysis, to find useful utilization ideas of ash. In the second stage operating model options are defined and the selected development target, recycled fertilizer business, is evaluated by means of a SWOT analysis. In the third development phase, a solution-driven benchmarking study is conducted on the recycled fertilizer industry and using wood ash as a fertilizer in the forests. In the final implementation phase, the Lapinjärvi business ecosystem and the closed cycle of ash is modelled, and a triple layered circular economy business model is outlined, based on the traditional business model canvas, but so that the effects of ecosystem level and sustainability impact are considered. Also, the roadmap to the future actions is modelled. The recycled fertilizer business is the emerging business of the future that can replace fertilizers made from fossil minerals and make the EU self-sufficient in their production. To promote sustainable forest growth, forests should be managed in a way that increases the volume of carbon sinks to slow down climate change, while enabling sustainable forest use by increasing tree growth and nature biodiversity....
